Mollie's job Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Mollie's job - Essay Example The company may have been relying on the outsourcing of labor from countries with low wage. The aim of this outsourcing might have been to ensure high quality production as a cost effective means. The relocation might be due to the searching of relatively cheaper labor cost in the market. This means that the relocation may have been to countries low labor costs or availability of markets. Low labor cost is a relative factor that over time may change, thus explaining the several relocations (Moley). The movement may be due to search of better infrastructure and qualified workers access. The skilled labor abundance will lead to lower prices for quality services (demand and supply rule). The availability of technological skills also might have been the reason to why the company kept moving. Technological inventions and innovation have advanced to be common thus making it hard to cope up with if the labor force is not exposed enough. Companies or businesses might be forced to move from one area to another in search of highly skilled management personnel. Another reason would be to move where the employees can easily access capacity building services easily (Moley). Companies and organizations can relocate in search of benefits that relate to financial incentives (Moley). The generosity within the financial incentive offers may make a company to decide to relocate from country A to B. Or even chose country or state A over the country or State B. Financial incentives like tax incentives normally increase the profit margin of companies, thus suitable for conducting business. The Mollieââ¬â¢s case may be due to the same issue; thus making her employer to move from one area to another. The multiple movements are normal since the incentives offered may differ from one country to another. In summary, the incentives offered are normally relative and depends with the governing body of the area thus differ. The Mollieââ¬â¢s employees may have been looking for new

Jing-mei eventually meets her sisters in Shanghai, with the monetary help coming from Wooââ¬â¢s friends, for such visit. Similarly, another story reveals the character of An-mei, who is the friend of Woo and member of the club. The story reveals her relationship with husband George Hsu and the daughter. The other two women are Lindo Jang and Yin Yin St. Clair. The club members meet every week, while enjoying ethnic Chinese food and raising money. Bond between Chinese mothers and their American daughters The main purpose of this novel has been highlighting the relationship between first generation Chinese immigrant mothers and their Americanized daughters. As most of the differences remain unresolved, Jing-meiââ¬â¢s case reveals the adaptation of American culture by her through ad option an American name, June. This is symbolic of her accepting the American cultural ethos. However, the narration of June, in the relevant story has tried to bridge the gap between generations and cultures, as well as, the heritage of China and America. ("The Joy Luck Club: Introduction.") Assignment Example Malachai started the business when he was in college and now he owns and manages the small service-oriented business by providing price quotes, hiring student painters, purchasing supplies, and advertising their services. He currently employs 22 painters and pays them $10.50 per hour for painting and ââ¬Å"prep-workâ⬠(scraping old paint, caulking, cleaning and removing bugs from the areas that are to be painted). In order to be profitable, Malachai has learned to provide superior service to his customers, including free price quotes. He builds in his profit-margin of 25% to all quotes by first computing his total costs, then adding 25% of that number to determine how much to charge the customer. Using his knowledge of the expenses for labor, supplies, and equipment, he has developed the following information: b. (5 points) The Marks family needs to get the outside of their house painted, including the siding as well as the white trim. Malachai estimates that area of the exterior of the house is about 8,000 square feet. Based on the condition of the Marksââ¬â¢ house he also estimates that he will need 2 workers for 8 hours to do the prep-work. How much should Malachai quote for the cost of this job, including labor, supplies, and profit? c. (5 points) Write a formula reflecting the price estimate for a house based on the number of square feet that need to be painted. Assume that Malachai can accurately estimate the painted area (in square feet) and the amount of time it takes to complete the prep-work on a job. d. (10 points) What do you think? Using the evidence from above, explain in a well-structured essay the importance of accurate cost estimates in a service-oriented business such as this. Research at least one other service-oriented business such as a restaurant, dry-cleaners, house-cleaning service and describe how they set

Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Teenagers Research Paper
Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Teenagers - Research Paper Example Some researchers have maintained that in the society, the percentage of cutters and percentage of individuals with eating disorders are similar. Compared with non-mutilators, self-mutilating teenagers were significantly more likely to have an eating disorder, and about 61% of the self-injurers may report current or past eating disorders. In a study of 2525 Australian teenagers Patton et al. (1997) found psychiatric comorbidity to be the clearest factor associated with extreme dieting with 62% of extreme dieters reporting high levels of both anxiety and depression. With the literature demonstrating evident relationships between these three disorders, namely, cutting behaviour, eating disorders, and alcohol and drug abuse, it appears these are comorbid conditions which originate early on life. If the parameters of these conditions and their interrelationships can be elucidated through the literature, this would enhance knowledge about these conditions. This enhanced knowledge can be then used in the school programmes directed to the teenagers, where the counsellors and teachers can make use of this information through specially designed training programmes for support in dealing with these issues in their students. Aim The aim of the study is to explore the comorbidity of three classes of self-harm within teenagers: cutting behavior, eating disorders, and alcohol and/or drug abuse. As a result of the study, develop a training program for school counselors and teachers to utilize for support in dealing with these issues. Objectives Identify the relationship between cutting behaviour, eating disorders and alcohol/drug abuse. Increase awareness and understanding between the relationship between cutting behaviour, eating disorders and alcohol/drug abuse. Develop an innovative training program with the aim of improving client outcomes. Evaluate the effectiveness of school counselors as a method of support to those who self harm and have eating disorders. Review of Literature Strategy Methodology is important to fill in the intellectual vacuum that may be associated with a research question, and therefore, there is a need to pinpoint the context of a research within the existing knowledge base. Since there is a considerable body of existing literature depicting the studies in several areas of science and practice, while performing a literature review, it is pertinent and important to perform the review in a systematic

Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 7
Analysis - Essay Example By providing this scenario, he invokes a 'catch twenty-two' type situation in the mind of his reader and a sense of absurdity. He then further stimulates this sense of the bizarre by stating that in order "to punish the agent" (4), the government must first attain the name of the informant from the reporter and if the journalist chooses not to provide such information under privilege, the informant "may never be caught" (8). At this point, Volokh gains the interest of his reader, enough to induce him/her to read further. Having gained the reader's attention, Volokh then moves from the hypothetical to reality by introducing the Plame Affair, an incident with which most readers would be familiar and would probably have views on, and a more recent incident in Providence, R.I where a reporter "was convicted of criminal contempt" (13) for not naming the person who "gave him a tape of a city official accepting a bribe" (14). By referring to these actual cases, the reader is more likely to agree with his questions: "Should there be a journalist's privilege What should its scope be And who exactly qualifies as a journalist" (16/17). In other words, he sets the scene and lays the groundwork first before moving to his real contention. At this point in his article,... nd that states are divided on the issue with some acknowledging a journalist's privilege to different degrees, while others "and the federal government" (27) are not. This inference of authority being in such disarray, and his poignant use of language, such as "a cryptic three-paragraph concurrence" (20), "should try to strike a proper balance" (23), and "the situation is a mess" (29), help to stimulate the reader's sense of helplessness and vulnerability. Volokh then broadens his line of reasoning from discussion on whether there should be a journalist's privilege and its scope to who "qualifies as a journalist" (17), and further expounds the problem by raising the issue of the "hundreds of thousands" (31) of bloggers who write on the internet, "some of which come with a condition of confidentiality" (32/33). By appealing to the First Amendment once again, he asserts that "freedom of the press should apply to people equally" (35) including bloggers. This however, creates another problem, suggests Volokh, because if "everyone is a journalist" (37) and these privileges are granted to everyone, the "mainstream journalists" (39) will suffer. Informants will be able to bypass any risk of reprisal by publishing through "a friend who has a blog and a political axe to grind" (40), rather than a conventional reporter, who "may turn him in" (39). "On the one hand" (43), he claims information from informants assist reporters to "uncover crime and misconduct" (44), and if the journalists had to disclose the names of their informants, the source of information would disappear. "On the other hand" (45), however, he claims that some information is "rightly made legal" (46). The "best solution" (47) to this paradox, according to Volokh, may be to adopt the same laws
